Rusnak Provides Hole-in-One "Car of the Year " for Torres Golf Classic

SAN GABRIEL VALLEYWIDE NEWS

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE - When Andrew Torres died of cancer last April, at the age of 23, he left behind friends from every walk of life. Now his classmates, all young adults in their early 20's, have asked their parents, relatives and employers to support the first annual 2nd Lt. Andrew Torres Memorial Golf Classic, to be held on April 18th at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club.

The committee got a boost last week from Liz Rusnak, who saw a poster for the event in at a dry cleaners in La Canada. Rusnak contacted the committee and offered to provide a hole-in-one prize vehicle, the new high performance sedan, Chrysler’s "car of the year" – the elegant Chrysler 300C. To complete this unique program, Rusnak Chrysler Jeep Dodge will bring the 300C and other Chrysler models to the tournament, for golfers and guests to examine. Chrysler will make a cash donation for every test drive of the vehicle.

Committee members personally met with Liz Rusnak to thank her. "Ms. Rusnak is impressive as a business woman, but she also is a mom so she knows how we feel about this event" said Anita Torres.

Flintridge Prep classmates who are organizers of the event were grateful for Rusnak’s contribution. Matt Linder, an engineer, has a special interest in automotive design. "It’s very nice of Rusnak and Chrysler to support us." said Linder. "Andrew wanted us to support cancer research and he would have liked driving the 300C" said Noelle Ito.

Andrew Torres grew up in La Canada Flintridge, California. He became interested in military service because his father served as a Marine officer with Force Recon in Vietnam. During his cancer treatment, he was stationed at the Naval Academy. "Lt. Torres was an inspiration to all those who came in contact with him," said Major Greg Boll, USMC, United States Naval Academy. "He loved being a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and although only commissioned for two years, he had an extraordinary impact on the personnel he was stationed with. His loss will be felt by all those here at the Naval Academy."

The Torres Golf Classic will be held at the La Cañada Country Club. Tickets for individual golfers will cost $225.00, which includes lunch and dinner. A limited number of dinner-only tickets will be available for $60.00. There will be a silent auction. The proceeds from the golf classic will go to an ongoing cancer research project at Huntington Medical Research Institutes in Pasadena, California. For more information about Huntington Medical Research Institutes, see www.hmri.org. To sign up for the event, or for more information about sponsorships, please contact Law Offices of Torres and Brenner at (626) 792-3175 or see www.andrewtorres.org on the web.
